Silk Worms!! / 10 Day 1000 Word Challenge : October 20, 2010
Hi everyone,
just today I just touched a silkworm. It was so soft and smooth but it’s hard to pick up because they have special legs so they can stick to a surface really hard. Then you have to gently force the legs off so you can make its legs lift up. Once you do that there you have it you can pick it up. The silkworm is what we study in class in science I find it interesting. Once it’s all grown up it will turn into a cocoon and then a moth. When it’s in the cocoon stage you can get lots of silk from it. First get a cocoon of a silkworm then put it in boiling water for 5 minutes so that you kill the pupa inside the cocoon. Then you grab a hook and take off the silk from the cocoon and wind it up with a coil. That’s how you get the silk. The silk you get from one silkworm is about 914 meters long. If you find that huge it is! That’s all for now bye.

Hi Tim
I found it really cool when the worm where in our class. The only party I did not like is when they started dieing. But at least we could still have a moment to see them. I think it was the last time I would see some silk worms.
